Clothing Care Guide
The care label on the garment takes priority over general advice. Similar-looking fabrics can need different care because their composition, dyes, linings and trims differ.
Before the first wash
Read the washing, drying and ironing instructions. Check whether the item needs professional cleaning. Do not assume a garment is machine washable because another item of the same style is.
Choose the method on the label
Use the permitted washing method and temperature. Check any instructions about washing separately, turning the garment inside out or protecting fastenings. If the label says not to wash, do not substitute a gentle machine cycle.
Drying and ironing
Check the label before using a tumble dryer or iron. Some garments need to dry flat, while others can be hung. Follow the stated heat limits and any instructions about protecting printed, coated or decorated areas.
Knits, outerwear and special finishes
Look for instructions specific to the fibres, lining or finish. A knitted shape does not confirm a wool composition, and a shiny finish does not establish that a fabric is silk. Avoid selecting a care method from the product name alone.
